Balancing a social life and studying can be a struggle but trying out these top life hacks for students can keep you motivated, room organised and give your revision a boost.
• Colour code your notes – If you’re creating revision aids, colour coding your notes not only makes them look better but will fire up your visual memory too, making it easier for you to recall the information.
• Always check student discounts – You can save a small fortune by taking advantage of student discounts, so always keep you student ID handy and ask everywhere you go.
• Record your lectures – Taking notes during lectures means you can miss important points. Invest in a recorder so you can go back and listen whenever you need to, it will be especially useful when exam time comes around.
• Decorate your room using washi tape – Give your room some personal style by displaying posters and photographs. Use washi tape to stick them to walls, it won’t leave a mark or peel off the paint when your tenancy comes to an end.
• Don’t buy all the books on the reading list – Before heading off to university it can be tempting to buy all the books on your reading list but that could prove a waste. Instead, have a look for second hand books or check them out of the library whenever you need to use them.
• Create revision incentives – It can be difficult to keep motivated when you’re studying or revising so give yourself an incentive. Put small sweets scattered throughout your notes and when you get to one have a short break while you eat it.
• Fold your clothes Japanese style – Student accommodation often has limited space to store you clothes resulting in a jumble that’s hard to sort through. Take a leaf out of Japan’s book and fold each items and standing them up rather than stacking for easy access.
• Look up some mug recipes – If you hate washing pots, are a terrible cook or just want something that is quick and easy to make, mug recipes could be for you. There’s plenty of recipes to try your hand at online and most require just a few ingredients.
• Make sure you don’t sleep through your alarm – After a night out or a long revision session it can be easy to sleep through your alarm. Put your phone into an empty glass to amplify the sound and make sure you don’t sleep through; it might even stop you from hitting snooze too.
