  1. Social scenes

The student experience you’ll get in Glasgow is like no other. The city is a popular tourist destination bursting with an exciting nightlife and a lively daytime atmosphere, with lots of places to see and plenty of things to do. When you stay at Liberty Park you’ll be a short walk away from everything you need – so you’ll never be far from the action on offer.

The city centre is packed with hundreds of places to eat out with a wide variety of cuisines from around the world. At Liberty Park you’ll only be 10 minutes’ walk away from places such as Jamie’s Italian, Browns and Prezzo on George Square, or Ichiban, Max’s Bar and Grill and Strata on Queen Street. You can also choose from a range of national chain restaurants including Nando’s, TGI Friday’s, Wagamama and Five – so whatever you’re into, you’re sure to find something to suit your taste and budget.

It’s a well-known fact that the Glaswegians are extremely fond of their pubs and generally having a good time! There are bars, pubs and clubs all within walking distance from Liberty Park or you can venture out to a selection of cheap bars in Sauchiehall Street, which is a 10 minute taxi ride away.

Some of the city’s most popular destinations for socialising and eating out are George Square and Merchant City. Merchant Square has lots to offer with Arisaig, Bar Square, Beer Café, Boudoir Wine Bar, Fanelli’s, Mercado, Metropolitan and O’Neill's – to name just a few.

Some great spots for dancing the night away are Garage and O2 ABC, which are each a short 7 minute taxi ride or a 20 minute walk away. Or, why not visit the West End to experience a range of music from clubs such as Viper? It plays house, techno and electro – you can get there by train in around 20 minutes.

You can also explore other bars, cafés and restaurants in nearby cities by taking a train from Queen Street rail station, just 10 minutes’ walk from Liberty Park, or from Glasgow Central train station, too.

  2. What's around

You’ll have plenty of things you can do in your spare time in Glasgow, but since you’re a student, it helps to know that you’ll be close to universities such as the Glasgow Caledonian University (a 7 minute walk away), the University of Strathclyde (a 10 minute walk away), The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (a 13 minute walk away) and Glasgow School of Art (a 20 minute walk away). There’s convenient access to lots of train or bus services so you can get around the city with ease.

If you’re looking for a spot of retail therapy, whether it’s designer labels or independent boutiques, you’ll have major shopping areas to choose from such as the Buchanan Galleries, which is only 10 minutes’ walk away from Liberty Park, and includes outlets such as H&M, Levi’s, John Lewis – plus many more. Alternatively, you can find a variety of shops in either Princes Square or Merchant City, which are 15 minutes’ walk away from the residence. For budget shopping options, you can also visit the Barras Street Market – which offers a diverse range of independent stalls.

In Glasgow you’ll have 35 different museums and art galleries that you can visit, so you’ll never feel culturally deprived! One of the most popular museums in the UK, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, is located in Glasgow. It’s free to visit, and it’s just a 23 minute bus ride away from the residence. The Glasgow Science Centre is another great place to spend your free time. It offers a Science Mall and an IMAX cinema, and a combination of walking and riding the bus will get you there in just over half an hour!

If you enjoy live music, you can make the most of the famous bands and singers that visit the iconic O2 Academy Glasgow, which is just 20 minutes away from the residence by train. And for a different taste of the music scene in Glasgow, try the King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut.

If you prefer a more sophisticated activity in the evening, you can catch an incredible experience of live performances at the Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera or the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Their performances are phenomenal and are bound to impress – maybe one for when your parents come to visit!

To catch up on the latest box office releases you can visit Cineworld, an 18-screen cinema located just a 10 minute walk away from your new home.

If you like to relax in between lectures, Glasgow Green is a 10 minute walk from Liberty Park. The park has a range of facilities to offer, which include: orienteering courses, various footpaths, Heavy Horses – which are stabled and exercised within the park – plus several events are held there throughout the year.

  3. Getting active

At Liberty Park you’ll be a 17 minute walk away from a 24-hour PureGym on Bath Street, which offers a good range of equipment and facilities whilst offering competitive rates for students. You’re also a 5 minute walk away from your local independent gym – ARC Health and Fitness.

If you fancy watching football and getting involved in one of the most popular sports in Glasgow, visit Ibrox Stadium, which is home to Rangers Football Club. You can also watch Celtic Football Club play at Celtic Park. Both stadiums are under 15 minutes away by car, so you can easily access the action on the pitch. Be warned – the rivalry between these two is fierce!

For a day out getting active and enjoying some of the best nature on offer in the UK, try a trip to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs. Here you can go hiking, skiing or cycling depending on the season – whichever tickles your fancy!

  4. Travel and transport

There’s good access to transport links from Liberty Park, so you can conveniently catch a train and bus in only a few minutes’ walk. Glasgow has a reliable bus system so you can easily travel around the city centre and its surrounding areas. Buchanan bus station is around a 10 minutes’ walk from Liberty Park. From here you’ll be able to get any of the National Express coaches which travel to other UK cities, offering super cheap fares.

The Subway in Glasgow is a quick and convenient way to travel to lots of the popular areas this great city has to offer.

You can visit other major UK cities by catching a train from Glasgow Central train station, which is less than 20 minutes’ walk from the residence. It’s around 4 and half hours to reach the world famous city of London, Manchester takes 3 and a half hours, whilst Preston is just 2 and half hours away.

If you’re feeling adventurous you can also visit popular destinations within Scotland, such as Aberdeen and Edinburgh. Simply catch a train from Queen Street station, which is around a 10 minute walk away.

Students from abroad or those looking to travel will be pleased to know that Glasgow Airport is only a 20 minute drive from Liberty Park, and it offers a good range of routes across Europe and beyond.

  5. Local amenities

In less than 15 minutes’ walk you can access a vast range of shops and supermarkets for all your weekly grocery shopping and essentials. Local supermarkets include Sainsbury’s on Queen Street, Tesco Express, Marks & Spencer and Morrison’s – all located in the city centre.

For some retail therapy you’ll have the delights of Argyle Street, Buchanan Street and Sauchiehall Street – perfect for all of the latest fashion trends. If you still can’t find what you need, you can also visit St Enoch's Shopping Centre. All of these locations are within a 20 minute walk – or less – from Liberty Park.

St Vincent Street Post Office is around a 15 minute walk away from the residence and includes a Bureau de Change, plus there are lots of high street banks available in the city centre whenever you need an ATM.

If you’re looking for performance materials for music, dance, drama, production and screen you’ll have The Whittaker Library at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, only a 15-minute walk away from Liberty Park. It contains an extensive collection of materials and is open until 8.30pm Monday - Thursday, and 5pm on Fridays.

  6. Your wellbeing

Your University in Glasgow will be able to provide you with free and confidential advice about finances, careers and any general advice you need – you’ll never feel isolated or be without support.

We recommend students to register with their local health centre so you can always get the medical support you need. The nearest one to Liberty Park is Townhead Health Centre and it’s only a 15 minute walk from the residence.

In the unfortunate event that you need urgent medical attention you can visit Glasgow Royal Infirmary Hospital, which is only a 14 minute walk from Liberty Park.

If you simply want to speak to someone or ask a general question, a member of the Residence Team will always be available to guide you throughout your stay with us – don’t forget that we’re always here to help.

Many of our staff members are multilingual, so don’t be shy if English isn’t your first language; if we can’t immediately offer support in your native tongue, we’ll point you in the direction of someone who can. We’ll do our best to help you settle in and make friends, and we can point you in the right direction for any visa, welfare or University advice you may need.

We can’t wait to meet you!

  6. Accreditations

    Accreditations

Liberty Living operates in accordance with the National Code of Standards for student accommodation. The Code of Standards is run by ANUK (The Accreditation Network UK), the NUS, and Unipol Student Homes, and is supported by universities across the UK.

Liberty Living joined the Code of Standards to give our students peace of mind. You can be assured that you will enjoy a high standard of living in accordance with the Code of Standards, and a prompt resolution to problems should they ever occur when you stay at any of Liberty Living’s residences.

All of Liberty Living’s residences have been accredited by ANUK and run in accordance with the National Code of Standards.

    National Code of Standards logo

Liberty Living follow a distinct set of standards for our student accommodation, called the ANUK/Unipol National Codes. The purpose of these Codes, (membership of which is voluntary), is to provide students with professional housing services.

The standards chosen for the Codes reflect a balance of common sense obligations and responsibilities between landlords and tenants. They also reflect established best practice in the sector and are based on what an average student and their parents would expect of a good quality housing supplier. The standards are supported by the voice of students themselves through the National Union of Students.

What does being a member of the codes mean?

    • Both parties can enjoy the benefits of good standards of housing management and practice.
    • Misunderstandings and disputes are reduced.
    • If problems do occur they can be promptly resolved.
    • The independent complaints procedure operated by the Codes can be used for complaint resolution.

Important pre-arrival information

  1. Documents to provide

    Documents to provide

Once you've made a booking, you will need to provide us with the following documentation within 7 days (this will avoid delays on your moving in day):

    1. Signed copy of UK Guarantor Form

A UK Guarantor is required for all UK students and any non-UK students wishing to pay their rent via instalments.

A Guarantor is a third party who will be financially responsible for your rent payment in the event you can't pay. The Guarantor must be a permanent UK resident and be able to provide us with proof of address in the form of a council tax or utility bill (dated within the last 3 months). An ideal person for this responsibility is your mum, dad or your legal guardian growing up - although of course, you'll need their permission first.

    2. Passport-sized photograph of yourself

This can be a selfie, as long as we can clearly identify you.

    3. Student Loan Schedule

If you intend on using your student loan to pay your rent, we'll need to see evidence of your Student Loan Schedule from the Student Loan Company. Once we receive this, we can change your rent payment dates to coincide with the dates you receive your loan payment.

  2. Arrival information

    When can you arrive?

You can move in any time after Saturday 7th September 2019 from 10am. We have dedicated staff at reception to help you move in.

  8. Paying your rent

What you need to know about paying your rent

Your rent will be charged automatically to the same credit/debit card you used on the website to make your booking and pay your deposit.

If you need to change this credit/debit card, please sign into ‘My account’ and then navigate to the Booking Details page and click on the ‘Update Payment Card Details’ link. This will then securely save your new card details to our records.

If you're relying on your Student Loan to pay for your rent, please keep in mind this loan is typically received a week or two after your rent is due. To avoid any nasty surprises, make sure you email us a copy of your Student Loan Schedule so we can change when your rent payment is due.
